OUR LAND : EL PENEDÉS

Between the mountain range prelitoral Catalan area and the small plains of the Mediterranean coast, in the center of the central depression, it born and matures the vineyard of the Penedès. We refer to an area of 1.557 square kilometres divided into three zones: the Penedès Superior, the Central and Baix Penedès.

 

EL BAIX PENEDÉS

The influence of the sea and sun make Baix Penedès a zone of warm climate and very soft, suitable for the crop of white varieties traditional like Xarel·lo and Maccabees, together with black varieties like the Grenache, Ull de Llebre, Carinyena and Monestrell.

EL PENEDÉS CENTRAL

Temperatures in this zone is a little lower than in the former one. The variety of Xare·lo and Maccabees is also cultivated. In the last years we have been worked and acclimatized several foreign varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay mainly, as well as Cabernet Frane, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon and Merlot.

 

EL PENEDÉS SUPERIOR

Is the most interior and protected area with altitudes that arrive at 800 meters over sea's level. In this zone, as a historic detail, Parellada the traditional white variety of Penedès was cultivated but in the last years the plantations of otherwhite varieties coming from France and Germany have been spread, Muscatell of Alexandrian, Riesling, Gewürstramier and white Chenin.

THE EARTH

The floor of the zone of Penedès is very varied but great part of terrain is of crop and has some similar characteristics. It is about deep, not too sandy but not too argillaceous, with a good permeability and retention of the water. The floor is poor in organic matter, calcareous and little fertile.
